Colonic Irrigation (also known as colonic hydrotherapy) is the gentle infusion of warm filtered water into the large intestine to help cleanse it of old faecal matter, gas, mucous and parasites. A healthy colon is essential to a healthy body. Conventional diets of today, comprised of refined and processed foods, high in saturated fats and low in natural fibre, coupled with sedentary lifestyle contribute to a multitude of bowel disorders and health problems.

Colonic irrigation/hydrotherapy quickly, safely and effectively eliminates large quantities of impacted waste material and toxins which have accumulated over weeks, months even years!

The benefits are numerous, as well as hydrating the whole body's system and stimulating the bowel, the aesthetic benefits include a natural skin boost, increased vitality and the reduction of conditions such as cellulite. As metabolic efficiency improves it can also help with general weight loss.

As well as helping specific problems, most people feel lighter; more energised and experience an overall sense of mental and physical well being. The treatment is carried out in a relaxed and caring environment, All staff are medically qualified practitioners and all contact equipment used is disposable and used once only.

How does a colonic work?

The way the treatment works is that warm water is gently infused into the colon. The water removes encrusted waste that has built up over the years and cleanses the colon, enabling it to absorb nutrients more easily and function more efficiently. Unlike an enema, this treatment reaches the entire length of the colon, providing much more effective and thorough cleansing.

Systems used for colonic hydrotherapy

The closed system is the description given to the way that the treatment is carried out. It means that the Therapist is with you throughout the procedure. During this, you will lie down on a comfortable massage bed. The Therapist carries out the 'insertion' and controls the treatment with water temperature, water pressure and massage. This enables the Therapist to be more re-active to what is happening and can make the treatment more productive.

What to do before a colonic

To prepare your body in the best possible way for your colonic treatment, we advise the following dietary recommendations twenty four hours before your treatment:

  • Avoid eating for two hours before your appointment and only eat light meals the same day, otherwise you may feel nauseous. Avoid gas-forming foods the previous day, such as carbohydrates or sulphate foods, bread, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, cucumbers, carrots, raw apples and bananas.
  • Minimise caffeine, processed foods, alcohol, sugar, bread and fruit juice. Raw vegetable juice is more suitable than fruit juice.
  • If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the clinic.
